Red Light Company

Written By: Chris Rimmer

Gig Date: 25 March 2009
Venue: Norwich Arts Centre

Rating: StarStarStarStarStar

Red Light Company have risen to fame quickly after only being formed in 2007. Their recently released debut album(Fine Fascination) reached 13th in the UK album chart, the highest rated newly released album that week other than U2's new album. They have been touring around the UK and Europe performing their new album. On the 25th of March they came to Norwich Arts Centre, a small venue based in an old church with only 300 person capacity. This gives a very close intimate atmosphere, which allows you to feel close to the band and makes the experience much more personal.

Red Light Company brought along two support acts of very good calibre, the first to perform were a local band The Dead Static. They are a Norfolk/Suffolk alt-rock band only formed recently, as their drummer said 'We only got asked to perform at this gig about six weeks ago, and the band had only existed for about a week.' This was their first gig, and they delivered, getting the crowd going easily.

Next up was Grammatics, a Leeds based band that just released their debut album this week. This band has been receiving great acclaim from big names like NME calling them "Bona fide genius." The crowd was now pumped up jumping around enjoying their indie tunes. The bass guitarist of the band said thank you to the crowd and that they were glad they were playing 'in this little church thing'.

Finally the band that everyone had been waiting for took to the stage; they quickly came on and started the night off with 'Words of Spectacular' and 'Scheme Eugene'. This got the crowd buzzing and singing along ecstatically. Throughout the set the band would interact with the crowd, responding to shouts from crowd members, giving the feeling they really enjoyed performing and wanted their fans to have a good time. They dedicated their song Meccano to their support act the Grammatics, saying they've been amazing to tour with. They played an enjoyable fast paced set, the crowd excited all the way through. They played 'Arts & Crafts' and the crowed started jumping and singing the words, this being one of their most famous songs. They are very talented artists and are great performers, being able to get the crowd going with their own songs and a cover of 'Paper Planes' by MIA. With such talented individuals this band is only set to get bigger and bigger this year.
