Madina Lake
Rating:

It's safe to say Madina Lake have had a hard 2 years with Bassist Matthew Leone being hospitalized after being attacked in their home town, Chicago. They haven't, however, let this stop them from releasing new album 'World War III' and heading out on a 17 date European tour. Bringing with them fellow Americans The Super Happy Fun Club and the UKs My Passion. It was clear from the atmosphere at the intimate Waterfront venue tonight that both the bands and the fans were out to have fun.
Kicking the evening off was the aptly named The Super Happy Fun Club; a punk rock band from Chicago. They had the unfortunate task of playing to a small but growing crowd. Playing tracks off their debut album 'Go Fun Yourself' including stand out songs 'Generation' and 'My Life's A Mess'. Their catchy songs and energetic performance appeared to win over the crowd by the end of the set.
Hitchin quintet My Passion burst onto the stage next to the screams of many in the crowd. Fresh from a tour with Black Veil Brides it is clear they have built up a large following and you can see why when their live show rivals that of far larger bands. Every move on stage looks perfectly choreographed with each member just missing the other and at times the crowd! The high energy levels of all five members continues right through to final song 'The Girl Who Lost Her Smile', which makes me think they must have drunk a hell of a lot of Red Bull before coming on stage!
Waiting for Madina Lake to come on you really got the feeling that the fans thought of this as a comeback tour, marking the return of the four piece and especially Matthew Leone. Although, the way they exploded onto stage you wouldn't have known they had been away. The set included fan favourites 'Here I Stand', 'Never Take Us Alive' and 'House Of Cards' which saw frontman, Nathan Leone, continually invade the crowd, including a very impressive flip off the speakers into a large number of screaming girls. Between songs lead singer Nathan took the opportunity to thank the fans for their support through such an awful time and you could tell he meant every single word of it. Multiple confetti- filled inflatable balls and stage dives later the set finished with songs from new album 'World War III'. The cheers and screams as they walked off stage shows that Madina Lake are back and back to stay.
