These are the folk musings of Chad Mason, sometimes known as the Chad Mason Songbook when he's feeling pretentious. Chad also plays various things in Teknikov, guitar in The Winter Visitors, and sings/drums/noodles for David G. Cox, but that's another story. Chad's solo recordings are lavish, with compadres regularly roped in on flute, double bass, voilin, flugel horn and lungs. Where possible though, he plays everything himself. this is part egomania and part laziness (other people means rehearsal, less time eating). His gigs are altogether simpler affairs, with a guitar, a harmonica and the man himself. If he feels like shaking things up, he throws a laptop and keyboard into the mix or enlists the afformentioned David G. Cox on second guitar (and occasionally ham-fisted tamboura). Influence lists are for fools, but if you appreciate Bert Jansch, Nick Drake or Big Star you will probably find something worth studying in Mr. Mason's "work".
